Cuboid Faces Edges and Vertices (Corners)

What is a cuboid?

A cuboid is a 3 dimensional shape with 6 flat rectangular faces and all the angles in a cuboid are right angles. The image shown below is an example of a cuboid.

Opposite faces of a cuboid are parallel and equal.

A common example of objects that are cuboid in shape are books.
What is a Square Cuboid or a Square Prism?

A special case of cuboid where two faces are squares and four faces are rectangular is known as a “Square Cuboid” or a “Square Prism”.

What is a Cube?

A cube is also a 3 dimensional shape with 6 flat faces and all the angles in a cube are also right angles however all the 6 faces of a cube are equal sized squares.

What is a difference between a Cube and a Cuboid?

A cube is a special case of cuboid where all the six faces are equal sized squares whereas a cuboid has rectangular faces.

How many faces does a cuboid have?

A cuboid has 6 faces.

6 faces of the cuboid are shown in the figure above.

How many edges does a cuboid have?

Edges are where two faces meet.

A cuboid has 12 edges.

How many corners or vertices does a cuboid have?

Vertex or a corner of a cuboid refers to a point where three edges meet.

A cuboid has 8 vertices or 8 corners.

Video above shows the edges and vertices of the cuboid.

What are some common examples that have a cuboid like shape?

Some common examples of objects that are cuboid in shape are books, tissue boxes, bricks, shoe boxes etc.

What are some common examples that have a cube like shape?

Some common examples of objects that are cube in shape are rolling dices, sugar cubes, Rubik cube etc.
